BIIOLOGY
OF HAIR |
Why do we have Hair
on our Heads?
Hair
serves many biological functions but cosmetic reasons
may have actually contributed to the proportionately
healthier spread on the head. Our continuing association
of good and healthy looks with a full head over generations
could have contributed to this phenomenon.
The functional
purposes of hair on the head and elsewhere on the body
are:
- It
provides protection for the head.
- It
protects us from the sun.
- Hair
on the body has nerve endings that feel the attack
of bugs and mosquitoes.
- The
insulation it provides helps to keep us warm in cold
weather and cool when it is hot.
What
is hair?
Hair
