Doctors and Specialists
for Low Level Laser Therapy (or Cold Laser Therapy)
Hair Loss Treatments
Finding a specialist
Specialists like dermatologists
are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss.
In a less demanding way, tricologists are also trained.
Consider checking them out. You can find doctors with
knowledge of low level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold
laser therapy treatments by doing an internet search.
Getting LLLT treatments
in a doctor's office usually involve sitting under a
machine like those hair salon clinic sized hair dryer.
When compared with the hand-held LLLT devices, these
large size machines have the following advantages:
- precise amounts of
laser is delivered each time.
- the lasers are stronger,
delivering more stimulation per minute.
- it is more relaxing
than doing it yourself.
- the doctor can monitor
the results.
The disadvantages are;
- it is a much more
expensive method than doing it on your own.
- you have to travel
to get it done, and
- you have to make multiple
trips.
The treatments at these
clinics or offices are administered 2 or 3 times a week,
and then once a week for the next 16 weeks. After hair
growth is observed, periodic touch ups may be needed
to maintain the results. Each treatment takes about
29 minutes.
A program costs a few
thousand dollars. The program could for 3 or 6 months
with up to 3 visits per week.
These equipment are not
cleared by FDA for hair growth. They are issued an accession
number by the FDA. This means that the products
are calssified as cosmetic products and have met the
international standards for safety though not for hair
growth - because of the lack of scientific proof. However,
manufacturers claim that studies with this type of machines
have shown an 85 percent success rate in halting the
progression of hair loss and up to 39 percent increase
in fullness.
These office-based systems
come in two varieties:
- a system with fixed
diodes.
- a system with moving
diodes.

Moving (rotational) diode system |
In a fixed or static
system, 100 or more diodes (an electrical device that
has 2 wires leading into them to produce a flow of electricity
- entering from one wire and exiting out of the other
wire), each emitting light at a wavelength of about
650mn, are set into a device that are positioned above
the person's head.
In a moving-diode sytem,
Rotational Phototherapy (RPT) is utilized to rotate
30 laser diodes 180 degrees around the scalp. This process
is claimed to increase the contact of the laser energy
with the hair follicles around the entirre scalp. There
is no scientific evidence to prove that this type of
equipment is more effective than the other.
