Which is better as a hair
loss product - Minoxidil (Rogaine) or Finesteride (Propecia)?
Conparison based on
studies
Based in studies, minoxidil
(commercially available as Rogaine) has been found to
be inferior to finesteride (commercially available as
Propecia) as far as a product for hair loss treatment
is concerned. A study was conducted in 2004 in which
male patients with androgenetic alopecia used either
1 mg oral finesteride or 5 percent topical topical minoxidil
twice a day for one year.
It was found that 80
percent of the men using finesteride and 52 percent
of those using minoxidil enjoyed greater hair density,
demonstrating that finesteride is superior to minoxidil.
Interestingly, further
studies have shown that when minoxidil is combines with
finesteride, the combination is superior to finesteride
alone. This suggests a synergistic effect when the two
drugs are combines - more effective than either of the
drugs on their own.
